PBF

For the sixth consecutive year, we will be activating the PBF Special Event Station.   This year we will be using  a new callsign:  N5B.

For those of you who may be unfamiliar, a special event station is just a way for us to get on the air to promote amateur radio to the general public and to promote the PBF to the amateur radio community.  We will once again be located in our usual spot at the far back of the First United Methodist Church property next to the festival entrance.  We plan to will operate 3 stations all on SSB this year.   Parking passes will be available so that you will have free access to the station.  More information may also be found by visiting the N5B page on www.QRZ.com.

*Please note that this operation is completely separate from the PBF field activities.*

Anyone interested in participating (who is not already a member) should first join the separate N5B Yahoo Group.

This is a special group created just for this event where most discussion and activity related  to  N5B will take place.  It’s a closed group to reduce spam, but all I need is your callsign and your basic info and I will be glad to promptly add you to the group.

To join, just follow this link:  https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/N5B/info

There are several ways for individuals to participate in this effort.

First, we are having a contest to find the coolest photo from previous festivals to adorn our special 2016 QSL card.  Entry is open to anyone until September 1st.  Just e-mail your best photo or two to Stan Starks at:  nw5q@arrl.net The judging committee will then select a winner whose photo will make this year’s card unique.  The winner will also receive a small prize.

We also need folks to signup for shifts to help us setup and/or teardown, operate, or help/log.

For those new to amateur radio, and/or HF, this will be a great opportunity to experience the excitement of making contacts across the country and possibly around the world.  Technician class licensees are especially encouraged to come out .  We will have control operators to assist and coaching will be available to help you make contacts.   Think of it as a little bit like Field Day (only with air conditioning), and with a bunch of  folks all over the country (and the world) wanting to make contact with us!  Questions?  E-mail  them  to : nw5q@arrl.net

Pick your time and signup for a  2 hour shift.  The signup is here:  http://tinyurl.com/n5b-plano

Please come out and join us.  We always have a lot of fun!
