PARK Winter Field Day Tomorrow Jan 27th!

Winter Field Day is just about here!  The event will be held at the Lucas Fire Department training room.

Setup will start about 10am Saturday morning and the event starts at 1pm. We plan to operate until at least 9pm and possibly later depending on band conditions. We will plan to start up again at 8am Sunday morning and operate until the end of the event at 1pm. Teardown will begin at 1pm. Pizzas will be provided for dinner Saturday evening and everyone is encouraged to bring a side dish or dessert. We will have bottled water, but if you want soda or something, please feel free to bring it.

This will be a fairly informal operation, so there will be no signup for any task, just come out as your schedule permits and have some fun. I hope to see you there!

Thanks,

Tony

Winter Field Day 2018

Winter Field Day is approaching. This year the event iw January 27 – 28. We will be partnering with the Lucas Club and Fire Department. All are invited to attend. As in past years we will be operating from the Lucas Fire Department Training Room.

There will be three stations to operate as much of the 24 hour event as possible. We will have one station dedicated to digital modes, primarily PSK-31, one dedicated station for SSB and one that will be primarily SSB, but will have the ability to switch to CW or RTTY if anyone wishes to operate those modes. We plan to operate on 20/40/80m and we will be using the club call W5AWL, which will give us access to the Extra parts of the bands and allow us to confirm contacts in Logbook of the World.

Texas BEST & UIL Robotics Championships

I’ve been asked to organize radio communications for a portion of the competition. This year the non-robotics portion (displays, notebooks, marketing presentation, T-shirts) will be held at UTD’s Richardson campus. Because things will be spread among 3 buildings, they would like 4 radio operators for Thursday Dec. 7th, 9 AM – 6 PM, and Friday Dec. 8th, 7 AM – Noon.

I need 2 more operators for those two days.

In addition, BEST is looking for general volunteers, as well as a pit boss for the actual robot competition, which will be held at Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco on Friday Dec. 8th, 3 PM – 7 PM, and Saturday Dec. 9th, 7 AM – 5 PM.

Tour de Cure October 14th

I know this is short notice, but the Denton County Amateur Radio Association is asking for our assistance in supporting a bike rally in our general area.

The Tour de Cure, starting at Southfork Ranch, 3700 Hogge Road, Parker, TX 75002.

This ride benefits the American Diabetes Association. In years past, Tour de Cure has been held in Denton County, but the event organizers have moved it to Collin County this year. DCARA has another ride to support on the same day, so the success of this event hinges on participation from other area clubs and radio amateurs.

The ride starts at Southfork Ranch in Parker Texas and heads east towards Josephine. The link below is to the 62 mile route, which is inclusive of all of the shorter routes.

https://ridewithgps.com/routes/23974747

The reporting times have not been finalized yet, but the earliest positions can expect to start around 6:30AM and the latest positions should be finished by early afternoon.

We are primarily looking for stations to assist with rest stops and roving. The signup is below:

They will be using the PARK UHF repeater to support this event.

Thanks,

Tony

CoCoBEST Robotics Communicators Needed

Its time to begin thinking about the CoCoBEST robotics competition on Saturday, October 21st. P.A.R.K. has provided communications for this event for some time, and we have been asked for our services once again.

This is a fun, indoor event, with light breakfast, snacks, and free lunch as a bonus! Plus, you get to see the ingenuity of 50 middle and high school teams as the robots they’ve created, out of identical sets of components, compete to solve a problem.

We need a few additional volunteers for this event (Some of last year’s crew had so much fun they’ve already volunteered!). The time frame is 7:00am – 5:00pm, though some will be able to leave sooner. If we have enough volunteers, we can split the day with some working the morning, others the afternoon, and both getting lunch.

Please contact Dave W8OV to volunteer: w8ov@verizon.net, or reply to this announcement, and include your email and phone number.

Thanks!

Dave, W8OV

2017 Plano Balloon Fest Volunteer Signup

The 2017 Plano Balloon Festival is getting near.  Communicator registration is now open.
Please follow the formatting as suggested (it makes it cleaner on our end) and answer everything to the best of your knowledge.
The form will provide a URL at the end that you should save if at some point you need to make a change to your desired assignment, etc.
Also, share with your respective clubs and anyone you know interested.
There is a lot of valuable information on the site and plenty of time to read it.  For many, it is review.  But we forget a lot during the course of a year.
