The next PARK general meeting is this coming Monday, April 16th at 7:00 pm at the First Methodist Church of Plano, 3160 East Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, TX. As usual, VE testing will be conducted before the meeting at 6:00 pm.
Our guest speaker this month will be Russ Amlee KE5QAX, with a presentation on Ham Radio and Hospitals. Come find out how we can all benefit from Ham Radio and Hospitals working together in the public service arena.
As an added presentation bonus this month, we are showcasing recent achievements by one our younger members, Katherine Forson, KT5KMF. PARK member and Plano eighth grader, Katherine recently entered Science Fair competition in the Physics and Astronomy category, with her project titled “Radio Time”. Katherine used the new FT8 digital mode to explore how time of day affects propagation of signals in the 20 and 40 meter bands.
Katherine won first place [Junior Division] at the Plano District Science Fair, second place (along with a special award from the McKinney Amateur Radio Club) at the Dallas Regional Science and Engineering Fair, and brought home the trophy for second place at the Texas State Science and Engineering Fair, which was held in San Antonio.
Over 1,200 projects competed in 22 different categories at the State Science and Engineering Fair. As a result of her second place finishes, she has been invited to participate in the Broadcom MASTERS National Middle School Science Competition later this year!
Katherine’s project will be on display before the meeting and during the break, and she will be available to answer questions.
Mark your calendars and come early.
See you there.
