Winter Field Day Results 2018

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who came out to support our joint WFD effort!
Special thanks to Ted, KF5POV, Lucas Fire Chief, for allowing us to use his fantastic facility.

This proved to be a very balanced effort and the final tally showed that we made the following:
SSB QSO’s – 120
CW QSO’s –  132
Dig   QSO’s – 114
Total QSO’s – 366

With all of the bonus points, our final score was 11,568 and our log has been submitted
This was a great joint effort and I hope everyone who came out had a good time.

Winter Field Day 2018

Winter Field Day is approaching. This year the event iw January 27 – 28. We will be partnering with the Lucas Club and Fire Department. All are invited to attend. As in past years we will be operating from the Lucas Fire Department Training Room.

There will be three stations to operate as much of the 24 hour event as possible. We will have one station dedicated to digital modes, primarily PSK-31, one dedicated station for SSB and one that will be primarily SSB, but will have the ability to switch to CW or RTTY if anyone wishes to operate those modes. We plan to operate on 20/40/80m and we will be using the club call W5AWL, which will give us access to the Extra parts of the bands and allow us to confirm contacts in Logbook of the World.

Setup will start about 10am Saturday morning and the event starts at 1pm. We plan to operate until at least 9pm and possibly later depending on band conditions. We will plan to start up again at 8am Sunday morning and operate until the end of the event at 1pm. Teardown will begin at 1pm. Texas BEST & UIL Robotics Championships

I’ve been asked to organize radio communications for a portion of the competition. This year the non-robotics portion (displays, notebooks, marketing presentation, T-shirts) will be held at UTD’s Richardson campus. Because things will be spread among 3 buildings, they would like 4 radio operators for Thursday Dec. 7th, 9 AM – 6 PM, and Friday Dec. 8th, 7 AM – Noon.

I need 2 more operators for those two days.

In addition, BEST is looking for general volunteers, as well as a pit boss for the actual robot competition, which will be held at Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco on Friday Dec. 8th, 3 PM – 7 PM, and Saturday Dec. 9th, 7 AM – 5 PM.

Contact Information for volunteers:
